Skill
Skill is not just learning and doing a technique so that it 'looks good'. The
elements of focus, timing, speed, evasion and power are all vital to the
technique. True skills are developed by training all these elements, not just
by making a technique 'look good'
Speed
Speed develops as the other elements of the technique 'come together' for the
Karate-Ka. To force speed into an incorrect technique causes the Karate-Ka to
learn to do the technique wrong. This prevents a true feeling of how the
correct technique should be performed.
Once this has been attained, the Karate-Ka grows in perception;
>> How they can better correct their movement, posture etc.
>> The application becomes easier. To be performed with an Empty Mind as
a goal.
>> When performed with an empty mind the technique will be faster, better
focused, timed and more powerful.
Evasion
Evasion allows the Karate-Ka to avoid their opponant/s and, when performed
correctly, allows the application of counter techniques to be used. The
development of evasion skills permits defence against powerful techniques from
multiple opponants.
Power
Power can be developed along the same guidelines as the development of speed,
as they are componants of each other. Both power and speed can often be
developed to a significant improvement by not trying too hard. The act of
trying too hard creates a technique which is 'trying too hard'. REMEMBER the
goal of Empty Mind, which will allow you to improve.
